Everyone knows how daunting it can be to have such an important role in a wedding!
Are you a best man or know of someone who could do with some advice to impress and deliver a speech that everyone remembers?
You’ve got your wedding suit, so now it’s just the speech you need to prepare for! Here’s a few tips to get you started! Do you have your pen ready?
Its always key to keep your speech light-hearted, funny, inspirational and just that little bit serious.
In my opinion, you don’t want to come across nervous and too scripted so best to start off with a light joke. For example, “Good evening everyone, I’m (Name), the best man. I trust you are having a great night, racking up the bar bill, sorry (Grooms name)!”
Always follow with complimenting the bride and bridesmaids! This is essential! E.g. “Isn’t (Brides name) and the bridesmaids all looking absolutely stunning tonight!”
Carry on with a little bit about how you came to meet and know the bride.
From here on, its about you and the groom! Start about how you know each other. Add a small joke or two and a couple of funny stories regarding you and the groom. Even before hand, get in touch with the groom’s parents or other friends to get some good stories to really roast him!
Below are some jokes just to give you an idea,
• Firstly, (Groom name) has got really good taste, he did choose me as his best man after all! He even decided to wear the same outfit as me today!!
• Secondly, when (Groom name) falls in love, he loves hard- there’s nothing this man wouldn’t do for me. In fact, he’s spent the last 20 years doing nothing for me! See what you have to look forward to (Bride name)!
• Finally, he’s a handsome guy! Although standing up here looking at him next to (Bride name), you could have done abit better hun!
This is when it gets a little serious…
Finish with saying what an honour it was to be asked to be best man. Say how happy you are he’s found someone to share his life with. Wish them a lifetime of happiness!
Final line of your speech…
“ Lets all be upstanding and raise a glass for the new Mr & Mrs (Name)!” Lean over and kiss the bride on the cheek and hug the groom!
I hope this has helped to get you started and, on your way, to delivering such an important speech!
